    Pronouns

    Subject, Object, Possesive and Reflexive

     

     

    What are pronouns?

    Pronouns are words that replace nouns in a sentence.

    We use them to avoid repetition and make sentence clearer and smoother.

    • Lisa in my fiend. Lisa likes to read. Lisa has a cat.
    • Lisa in my fiend. She likes to read. She has a cat.

     


    There are four main types of pronouns in English. There are:

    • Subject Pronouns - Used as the subject of a sentence (I, you, he, she, it, we, they)
    • Object Pronouns - Used as the object of a verb or preposition (me, you, him, her, it, us, them)
    • Possessive Pronouns - Show ownership (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs)
    • Reflexiver Pronouns - Refer back to the subject (myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves)

     

    Subject Pronouns

    Used to replace the subject of a sentence.

    I, You, He, She, It, We, They

    • Lisa is my sister. Lisa loves to sing ( Lisa → she )
    • Lisa is my sister. She loves to sing

     

    • David and I play football. ( David and I → We) 
    • We play football.

     

    • Tom and Sarah are students. Tom and Sarah study hard. ( Tom and Sarah → They )
    • Tom and Sarah are students. They study hard.

     

    Object Pronouns

    Object pronouns receive the action in a sentence. They replace nouns that come after a verb or preposition.

    Me, You, Him, Her, It, Us, Them

     

    • She called David. (David → him)
    • She called him.

     

    • They invited Sarah and me (Sarah and me → us)
    • The invited us.

     

    • I saw Tom and Anna in the park (Tom and Anna → them)
    • I saw them in the park. 

     

    Possessive Pronouns

    Possessive pronouns show ownership and replace possessive nouns or possessive adjectives + nouns to avoid repetition.

    Mine, Yours, His, Hers, Ours, Theirs

     

    • This is Lisa's book (Lisa's book → hers)
    • This book is hers.

     

    • That is my pencil. (my pencil → mine)
    • That is mine.

     

    • These are their bags. (their bags → theirs)
    • These are theirs.

     

    Reflexive Pronouns

    Reflexive pronouns refer back to the subject of the sentence when the subject and the object are the same person or thing.

    Myself, Yourself, Himself, Herself, Itself, Ourselves, Yourselves, Themselves

     

    • I cut me while cooking (X)
    • I cut myself while cooking.

     

    • She taught her how to swim. (X)
    • She taught herself how to swim.

     

    • They built the house by them. (X)
    • They built the house by themselves

     

     

     

    대명사는 문장에서 명사를 대신하는 단어입니다.
    대명사를 사용하면 같은 명사의 반복을 피하고, 문장을 더 명확하고 자연스럽게 만들 수 있습니다.


    ✅ 예시

    Lisa is my friend. Lisa likes to read. Lisa has a cat.
    → Lisa is my friend. She likes to read. She has a cat.


    영어의 주요 대명사 종류 (4가지)

    1. 주격 대명사 (Subject Pronouns)
      문장에서 주어로 사용되는 대명사
      → I, you, he, she, it, we, they
    2. 목적격 대명사 (Object Pronouns)
      동사나 전치사의 목적어로 사용되는 대명사
      → me, you, him, her, it, us, them
    3. 소유 대명사 (Possessive Pronouns)
      소유 관계를 나타내는 대명사
      → mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs
    4. 재귀 대명사 (Reflexive Pronouns)
      주어와 목적어가 같은 대상일 때 사용
      → myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves

    1. 주격 대명사 (Subject Pronouns)

    문장의 주어를 대신함

    I, You, He, She, It, We, They

    예문

    • Lisa is my sister. Lisa loves to sing.
      → Lisa is my sister. She loves to sing.
    • David and I play football.
      We play football.
    • Tom and Sarah are students. Tom and Sarah study hard.
      → Tom and Sarah are students. They study hard.

    2. 목적격 대명사 (Object Pronouns)

    행동을 받는 대상(목적어)을 대신함

    Me, You, Him, Her, It, Us, Them

    예문

    • She called David.
      → She called him.
    • They invited Sarah and me.
      → They invited us.
    • I saw Tom and Anna in the park.
      → I saw them in the park.

    3. 소유 대명사 (Possessive Pronouns)

    소유를 나타내고, 반복을 피하기 위해 명사 대신 사용

    Mine, Yours, His, Hers, Ours, Theirs

    예문

    • This is Lisa's book.
      → This book is hers.
    • That is my pencil.
      → That is mine.
    • These are their bags.
      → These are theirs.

    4. 재귀 대명사 (Reflexive Pronouns)

    주어와 목적어가 같은 사람/사물일 때 사용

    Myself, Yourself, Himself, Herself, Itself, Ourselves, Yourselves, Themselves

    예문 (틀린 문장 → 올바른 문장)

    • I cut me while cooking. (X)
      → I cut myself while cooking.
    • She taught her how to swim. (X)
      → She taught herself how to swim.
    • They built the house by them. (X)
