Present Progressive Tense(현재진행형)

---

1. Most Verbs

with most verbs, just add -ing

• eat → eating
• watch → watching
• play → playing
• talk → talking
• cook → cooking
• study → studying

 

2. Verbs Ending in e

If a verb ends in a single e, drop the e and add -ing

• make → making
• smile → smiling
• take → taking
• have → having

 

3. Verbs Ending in ie

If a verb ends in ie, change ie for y and add -ing

• lie → lying
• tie → tying
• die dying

 

4. Verbs Ending in A consonant which comes after A vowel.

If a verb ends in a consonant, and the letter before the consonant is a vowel,

double the consonant and add -ing.

(Note :  This does not apply to verbs ending in w/x/y.)

• run → running
• swim → swimming
• put → putting

Present Progressive Tense(현재진행형)
규칙	설명	예시
1. 대부분의 동사	그냥 -ing를 붙입니다.	eat → eating watch → watching play → playing talk → talking cook → cooking study → studying
2. e로 끝나는 동사	마지막 e를 빼고 -ing를 붙입니다.	make → making smile → smiling take → taking have → having
3. ie로 끝나는 동사	ie를 y로 바꾸고 -ing를 붙입니다.	lie → lying tie → tying die → dying
4. 모음 + 자음으로 끝나는 동사	마지막 글자가 자음이고, 그 앞이 모음이면 자음을 한 번 더 쓰고 -ing를 붙입니다. (단, w/x/y로 끝나는 동사는 제외)	run → running swim → swimming put → putting
